Research focused on capturing diverse perspectives by engaging students, locals, bartenders, service staff, café owners, and bar owners. This inclusive approach ensured the community's voice shaped the solution, reflecting their needs, habits, and aspirations for a more conscious way to manage reusable items.

Interviews with café and bar owners, along with service staff, provided insights into the existing systems for managing cups in Savannah, uncovering how operations flow and identifying opportunities for improvement.

A participatory workshop at Daffin Park explored the key factors shaping cup disposal habits.

Insights

​Insights from digital surveys and interviews revealed a significant gap between intention and action. While participants showed enthusiasm and willingness to engage, sustainable behaviors were not consistently practiced. Key intention-action gaps identified include the following:

The system's success relies on input from both businesses and the community. Participatory design workshops gathered insights on pain points and preferences to co-create a user-friendly receptacle for cup returns. Key aspects like bin height, opening placement, and effective messaging were explored during a cultural probe at Daffin Park on April 19, 2024.
